I have enjoyed photography since my youth, in particular during travels. I became a serious hobbyist in 2005 when I bought my first Leica M rangefinder and discovered the possibilities offered by digital technology to control the imaging process from capture to print.  For a couple of years I scanned negative or slide film but I now shoot exclusively digital, with a Leica M digital rangefinder and a digital medium format.

My work concentrates on fine art and travel, in addition to family portraits my wife and three daughters being by far my most shot subjects.  I do not look for particular subjects but try to create images that have a strong visual impact.   Although I enjoy shooting dramatic landscapes and exotic scenes while on travel, many of my photos record things of our daily lives and are taken during walks in and around Brussels.  Quite often, the original shot is only the start of my imaging process. Like a painter, my aim is to show how I see the subject and not to report reality, and I often return to a digital file to try new interpretations.

While the internet is a great medium to share photos, I strongly believe that photos are best enjoyed when printed.  My preferred discipline of photography art is the tableau print, i.e.,  a fairly large print with loads of detail that is hung on the wall like a painting, and that draws the viewer into it.

For this exhibition, I chose five photos that have a common and defining element: the 'horizon'.   People see and imagine many different things at the horizon; they are curious of what it is  that they see and what lies beneath the horizon; they strive to reach it only to discover that it's impossible as behind every horizon lies a new one; and they are anxious of what they will discover on their way. My photos hopefully invite the viewer to reflect about these thoughts.  They were taken over the past three years in places as far away as Namibia and as close as the fields between Brussels and Leuven.
